I’m not going to lie. As much as I am encouraged by what I believe I can do, I’m still worried about the approach of November.
Really? It’s not even October yet.
True, but it’s getting closer and I know that it’s going to put all of my resolve to the test. My resolve and my mood.
With a history of bad times in November, it becomes a struggle not to be anxious about its arrival. I know it doesn’t help me to be anxious about anxiety, but it’s also really hard to avoid doing it.
I still don’t really know how to prepare for that time. I guess the best I can do is to keep going as if there isn’t anything to worry about? Maybe? But, at the same time, keep in mind that I have to be kind to myself if things start to get harder to cope with again.
To put it one way: the slope is steep, and it’s going to rain. But it’s not my fault that it rains. It’s not even my fault that the slope is difficult to climb. All I can do is keep going. And maybe wear the best boots I can find.
That sounds about right.
It’s frustrating to have moments in the year that are treacherous. I know I’m not the only one who experiences this. Traumatic anniversaries, uncomfortable holidays, unwanted birthdays… Plenty of things become hurdles throughout any person’s year.
Time tracking is a bother that way, isn’t it? We want to commemorate and celebrate but there’s the other side of that coin which we can’t seem to avoid.
I’m going to try and implement my hypothesis this year. That is, pairing my difficult times with a positive element. Yes, I am going to try and condition myself to feel better. Cue the salivating dog jokes.
I’m still not sure how I’m going to do this, but I think the theory is pretty sound. It can’t be excessive, just enough of a positive boost that I can distract myself from the downward pull of the season.
Something that I can look to next year, so that I dread Novembers a little less.
